Elizabeth Few
In creating her art, Elizabeth Few is drawn to meditative and methodical practices that transcend thought and tap into raw emotion. Hand-cutting circles, ripping fabric, intricate stitch work, and slow dye processes allow time for the breadth of the human experience to infuse the materials. Working with silk lends a nurturing, almost maternal quality meant to draw the viewer in and invite them to fully experience their truth, beyond ego. Color, radiance and tactility create a life force, allowing the art itself to continue to evolve. Few often starts with an established structure, like a grid or traditional quilt construction and then finds a more spontaneous, intuitive expression through elements that capture movement and unpredictability.
For the past three decades, Elizabeth Few has exercised her creative vision through art, fashion, textile and interior design. Having begun her career in the fashion world, her commitment to craftsmanship & innovation remain the foundation of her art practice. But the essence of her artwork reflects a desire to establish vulnerable connection, find a deeper understanding of life, and ultimately evoke a dream of hope.
Elizabeth lives and works in Richmond, Virginia in an old victorian home / studio with her teenage daughter.
