Elisabeth Wolstenholme
Elisabeth Wolstenholme’s 30 year painting practice is heavily informed by sense memory. Ideas and inspiration come from a turn of phrase, a feeling in the room or a contemplation on nature. Training in Russian Impressionism influences her choice of color and brushstroke, allowing a clear narrative to emerge.
Ms. Wolstenholme was raised on the Canadian border of New York State and the south shore of Boston Massachusetts. She currently lives in a beach town in Southern California. A keen observer of her physical and emotional environment, each location has left an indelible watermark. Her work has a sense of reverence, clarity and hope.
Artist Statement:
My work is dedicated to the connection between earth and atmosphere. Each painting is a vibrant and tender love letter to the natural beauty around me. The strength of roots in the earth, the promise of growth in a million shades of green and the particular softness of ocean air, represent the gentle way the natural world allows for continual rebirth.
Organized into three categories: Land, Sea, and Bloom – my paintings interpret a sense of peace, affirmation and deep respect for the fleeting nature of life. When I’m not painting, I drop back into family life with my husband, three daughters, and doggie with the honey-colored freckles.
