Dreaming of the Sleeping Maiden, 2024

May 24, 2024 by Lauren Zogg

a soothing cityscape with mountains and a small cloud in the background. there is little detail to the buildings, but they are full of emotion due to the moody colors of the piece. the houses are in a muted yellow, soft purple, washed out mauve, and accented with grays and blues. the rooftops are gray. the mountain behind the rooftops is a dark indigo, with small green trees just visible over the rooftops. the sky in the background is electric blue and a darker blue.

Farmhouse

May 20, 2024 by Jennifer Blumenstock

an abstract mixed media piece on canvas. the left two thirds of the piece are bright blue, and the right third is a cream color. there is a thin line in dark gray that snakes its way across the piece. On the surface, this canvas appears as though it consists of lines that form abstract shapes, atop geometrically straight rectangles, all applied by the stroke of a paintbrush. However, as you step forward the lines of these shapes disconnect from the canvas and you notice each was placed on by hand: using hand-cut, extremely fine thin strips of paper masterfully layered upon the canvas. Moreover, once this realisation sets in, you suddenly become aware of an entirely new layer of texture. Different hand-cut shapes of paper adhere to the canvas before any painting takes place. Creating a degree of texture and depth to delightfully unexpected.
