Teatime 7

November 16, 2024 by Jennifer Blumenstock

an abstract mixed media piece on canvas. the bottom 3/4 half of the piece is a soft powder blue, and the top 1/4 is white. there is a thin line in tangerine that snakes its way across the piece. On the surface, this canvas appears as though it consists of lines that form abstract shapes, atop geometrically straight rectangles, all applied by the stroke of a paintbrush. However, as you step forward the lines of these shapes disconnect from the canvas and you notice each was placed on by hand: using hand-cut, extremely fine thin strips of paper masterfully layered upon the canvas. Moreover, once this realisation sets in, you suddenly become aware of an entirely new layer of texture. Different hand-cut shapes of paper adhere to the canvas before any painting takes place. Creating a degree of texture and depth to delightfully unexpected.
