an ink and prisma color piece on paper featuring a large pine green horizontal oval with a cloud of script-like marks in black ink above it. there is a tiny red circle in the midst of the black ink, creating an interesting question: why is this red circle here?

Turaco

September 9, 2023 by Lauren Zogg

Professional photograph of a livingstone's turaco bird against a white background. the bird's body is facing towards the photographer, while its head is turned to the left so that the viewer has a profile angle of the left side of the bird's face. it is a bright lime green bird with a razor-like plume of green feathers tipped in white on its head. it has a sharp orange beak, and its dark brown eye is surrounded by pink along with white and black feathers.

When Life Gives You Lemons, Eat Cherries

September 8, 2023 by Anna Montie

an abstract still life collage created with ripped pieces of paper. the background is peach colored with small white four-pointed stars arranged in a repeating pattern. the foreground has a piece of peach powder blue, and sage green marbled paper that represents a table on which rests a blue vase decorated with paler blue circles. the vase holds large white blossoms with red centers and pale yellow accent petals along with smaller blue and white blooms. on the table next to the vase is a small white dish with three bright red cherries sitting in it. next to the dish is a bright yellow lemon. the artist has made a play on the saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" by titling her piece "when life gives you lemons, eat cherries."

Tangerine Sky

September 8, 2023 by Lauren Zogg

abstract piece in with hues of pale apricot, light tangerine, and white layered over cutouts of geometric shapes. a thin clementine orange line loops across the pieces, unifying the blocks of color. On the surface, this canvas appears as though it consists of orange lines that form three abstract shapes, atop geometrically straight rectangles, all applied by the stroke of a paintbrush. However, as you step forward the lines of these shapes disconnect from the canvas and you notice each was placed on by hand: using hand-cut, extremely fine thin strips of paper masterfully layered upon the canvas. Moreover, once this realisation sets in, you suddenly become aware of an entirely new layer of texture. Different hand-cut shapes of paper adhere to the canvas before any painting takes place. Creating a degree of texture and depth to delightfully unexpected.
